Member of the Year

The Member of the Year award was created in memory of Jeff Molloy, a young member of the club whose life ended too soon. Jeff's enthusiasm for the hobby was strong and he was always fun to have around a meeting or the flying field, as you never knew what he would say or do next. To honour Jeff's memory, the club decided to create the memorial trophy and award it each year, to the end of the club's days, to the person who contributed most to the club and local modeling environment that year. It's not about who has the nicest plane or can fly the fastest or highest. It's about acknowledging personal commitment to improve the hobby for all of us in some way.

2009

This year's Member of the Year is Mel Crewe. Mel has been an active member for several years and has taken on the informal role of chief photographer, a role he enjoys and fills quite well. This past year, he added chief cook to his list of responsibilities, taking care of all aspects of our funfly barbeques from acquiring the food and drinks to cooking the burgers and hotdogs.  Never stuck for a story (he has thousands - just ask his son, Stephen), Mel always manages to find a joke or tale to tell any time there's a crowd (that means more than 2). Congratulations Mel.
